ACUPUNCTURE WORKSHOP

Acupuncture is a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force in the body — known as chi or qi. Chi is believed to flow through pathways or meridians in the body.

Breast Cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women. A Mammogram every 1-2 years is recommended for women starting as early as age 40. If you want to learn more about breast cancer, please attend NEMS Health Education Workshop.

November 2019 - AMERICAN DIABETES

Diabetes can cause blindness, nerve damage, kidney disease, etc. People can lower their risk for diabetes by more than half if they have a balanced diet, get regular physical activity, and stay at a healthy weight. If you want to learn more about the diabetes, please attend NEMS Health Education Workshop.

December 2019 - SMOKING AND HEALTH

When you smoke, it’s not just your lungs that suffer. Chemicals from cigarettes do damage to almost every part of your body. It’s never too late to stop smoking. NEMS Health Education Department provides smoking cessation counseling in various languages. The best way to stop smoking is to have support. Please join our Quit Smoking Support Group to learn about how to get started on your way to be smoke-free!

September 2019 - Tai Chi CCSF

Based on the Sun style, the Tai Chi Program is a low-impact physical activity program that includes gentle movements suitable for people of all ages, mobility, ability and fitness levels with any form of arthritis. Tai Chi For Health Institute certified instructors are trained on how arthritis affects the body, arthritis safety principles and the approved forms.

Classes don’t require deep bending or squatting, are one-hour long and may be done seated or standing. Improve your qi today!

Fun & Fit Exercise class offers you the chance to participate in general exercise and receive a personalized wellness plan designed by you and your instructor. This wellness plan will provide you with the knowledge to take action on a daily and/or weekly exercise program to increase your energy, strength and balance, and helps you to reduce and prevent the incidence of many chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. Fun and Fit Exercise class is a great opportunity to make new friends, improve your health, and learn skills to enhance your overall well-being!

Seat exercise is a low-impact physical activity program that includes gentle movements suitable for people of all ages, mobility, ability, and fitness levels. Exercise - AEROBIC EXERCISE

Aerobic exercise is sometimes known as “cardiovascular exercise”. This is moderate intensity activity involving large muscle groups and is done to increase cardiovascular endurance. During aerobic activity, you repeatedly move large muscles in your arms, legs and hips. You’ll breathe faster and more deeply which maximizes the amount of oxygen in your blood. Your body will even release endorphins, which are natural painkillers that promote an increased sense of well-being.

Benefits:

  • Achieved by increasing the amount (duration, frequency or intensity) of physical activity
  • Increase range-of-motion, strength & flexibility
  • Improves sense of well being
  • Increase feeling of connections, less isolation
  • More energy

Hepatitis B is a contagious liver disease caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Approximately 1 in 12 Asian Americans are living with Hepatitis B, but most people do not know it.
