Are you interested in volunteering at North East Medical Services? We are looking for caring and enthusiastic individuals who want to give back to the community. Volunteers can work with patients or help out behind-the-scenes in a wide range of activities and departments. We have flexible shifts, and volunteers are asked to commit a minimum of 2-3 hours/week (depending on the department) for at least 6 months.
Below is a list of departments looking for volunteers. Most volunteer hours are flexible and specific activities will depend on the department supervisor.

Volunteer Opportunities at NEMS Stockton Clinic
(1520 Stockton Street, San Francisco)
1) Pediatrics Department - Reach Out and Read Program
Looking for: Enthusiastic volunteers to read to pediatric patients in the waiting rooms.
Possible volunteer hours/days: Mondays – Fridays (and possibly Saturdays) in the afternoons.
2) Pharmacy Department
Looking for: High school students to help with administrative and other activities to assist the Pharmacy Department.
Possible volunteer hours/days: Saturdays
3) Dental Department
Looking for: Volunteers to help out at the front desk (calling patients, data entry, etc.) and assist in the dental sterilization room.
Possible volunteer hours/days: Mondays – Fridays in the afternoon for at least 2.5 - 3 hrs. Saturdays are also a possibility.
4) Radiology Department
Looking for: Volunteers to help with translating, changing patients, taking medical history, filing, scanning films and reports, and other activities to assist the Radiology Department. Volunteers bilingual in Cantonese/Mandarin and English preferred.
Possible volunteer hours/days: Mondays – Fridays, 9am – 5pm, morning or afternoon.
5) Laboratory Department
Looking for: Volunteers to help arrange specimens and other tasks to assist the Laboratory Department.
Possible volunteer hours/days: Mondays – Fridays, 3:30 – 5:30pm.
6) Health Information Services (HIS)
Looking for: High school students to help with administrative and other activities to assist the HIS Department.
Possible volunteer hours/days: Mondays – Fridays, 8:30am – 5:30pm.
7) Administration Department – Improving Clinic Cycle Time Project
Looking for: Volunteers to help with a quality improvement project. We are collecting and analyzing cycle time data in different departments in NEMS as part of a project to decrease patient wait times and improve clinic efficiency. Come learn about operations and quality improvement strategies! Volunteers will have opportunities to help with some or all of the following: data collection, entry and analysis. This is a short-term volunteer opportunity with the possibility for extension. Volunteers will begin collecting data in our Laboratory Department.
Start Date: Friday, April 1, 2011
Duration: 2 weeks with likely extension later on.
Volunteer hours/days: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, 8:30 – 11:30am.
