Primary and Specialty Care
A Note about Hospital, After-Hours and Emergency Care
NEMS provides primary and specialty medical care to patients of all ages. Primary care providers (PCP) are responsible for coordinating your overall care and will assist you in obtaining the services that you need, including referrals to specialists, laboratory, x-ray, or the hospital, if needed.
Our primary care providers specialize in:
- Internal (Adult) Medicine
- Pediatrics
- Family Practice
Basic primary care services include:
- Routine checkups and physicals
- Evaluation, treatment, and follow-up of medical problems
- Immunizations for all age groups, including annual flu shots
- Screenings for many health disorders, such as diabetes (high blood sugar), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, tuberculosis, hepatitis, cancer, etc.
- Referrals for specialty care and/or other services (see below)
Other services include:
- Immigration exams and evaluations
- Work/Employment physical exams
- School sports exams
- Work injury/worker's compensation exams
- Women's health care services, including family planning, pregnancy tests, obstetrical services, breast and cervical cancer screenings (Pap smears and mammograms)
- Adolescent health care services
- Sexually transmitted disease (STD) screenings
- Confidential HIV testing, treatment, counseling and medical care
NEMS also offers specialty care services on-site in the following specialities:
- Allergy & Immunology
- Cardiology
- Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN)
- Opthalmology
- Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, Throat)
- Podiatry
- Radiology
- Surgery
Specialty services not provided at NEMS are available by referral to specialists in the community or at the hospital.
NEMS physicians have hospital privileges at select hospitals, such as Chinese Hospital and California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, should you need hospitalization. However, NEMS does not cover the cost of hospital emergency room or inpatient expenses at hospitals, nursing homes, etc. Contact your health plan or health insurance company for coverage conditions.
A NEMS provider is on-call 24 hours a day to advise you. If your medical condition is an emergency, the provider will instruct you to go to the nearest emergency room or your designated hospital.
