Communications Coordinator

North East Medical Services (NEMS) is looking for a Communications Coordinator to join our team. Under direction of the Programs & Development Manager, the Communications Coordinator will act as the single point of contact for all communications and public relations activities at North East Medical Services (NEMS). This position requires some knowledge or interest in the health care industry and public health issues, and will assist in drafting, coordinating, and/or directly responding to media and community inquiries on behalf of NEMS; developing marketing and branding strategies and materials; developing and writing content for NEMS’ external website, newsletters and other communications, etc.

 

FLUENCY IN BOTH ENGLISH AND CANTONESE IS ESSENTIAL; candidates should possess strong writing and public speaking skills in both languages. Candidates should also possess a professional demeanor and poise when working with the public.

 

This position is full time at 40 hours per week. Candidates should be available to work some nights and weekends if needed.

 

Job Responsibilities:

·         Act as single point of contact for all media, public relations, and communications activities at NEMS.

·         Establish and maintain contacts with both English and ethnic media (newspapers, TV, radio, new media) and the community.

·         Draft, coordinate and/or directly respond to media and community inquiries on behalf of NEMS in English and/or Cantonese, in conformance with standards developed by Administration.

·         Assist in the development of marketing and branding strategies, materials, etc.

·         Develop and write content for NEMS’ external website, patient newsletters, social networking (Facebook), and other communications.

 

 Marginal Job Functions:

·         Translate contents and materials from English to Chinese (or vice versa).

·         Assist in writing patient and staff newsletters and patient educational materials.

·         Assist in special projects and performs other duties as assigned by President & CEO.

 

Qualifications:

·         FLUENCY IN ENGLISH AND CANTONESE A MUST.

·         BA in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related fields.

·         Strong writing and public speaking skills in English and Chinese.

·         Comfortable with juggling multiple assignments and tasks.

·         Enjoys working with people.

·         Takes initiative.

·         Familiarity with or interest in health care, health policy, medicine or science a big plus.

·         Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver) a plus.

·         Ability to type in Chinese a plus.

·         Must be available to work some nights and weekends if needed.
